Complete, Partial, and Implant-Secured Dentures

Today’s dentures are designed with a patient’s unique needs in mind. They can provide a stable, comfortable solution to lost teeth. Depending on your needs, you can choose from options such as implant-secured dentures, partial dentures, or complete dentures.

During a visit to our Herndon, VA dentist office you can explore your treatment options for replacing your missing teeth. We offer a wide range of denture options to suit your cosmetic goals, budget, and dental health needs.

Implant-Secured Dentures: While traditional dentures do offer patients a comfortable solution for their lost teeth, implant-secured dentures are proven to last longer, provide extended comfort, and restore full function to your smile. Securing dentures with dental implants offers several long-term advantages.

Traditional and Partial Dentures: Traditional dentures are removable prosthetics that replace missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Whether you’re missing all your teeth (full dentures) or just a few (partial dentures), these custom-made sets help restore your ability to chew, speak clearly, and confidently smile. They sit comfortably on your gums, and while they take some getting used to, they’re a reliable, cost-effective way to bring your smile back to life.

Denture Process

Personal Consultation: To find the best tooth replacement option for you, you will consult with Dr. Jefferies. During your consultation, we will discuss your dental concerns and cosmetic goals. We will also fully evaluate your smile to assess the condition of your teeth, gums, and jaw. The information obtained during your consultation will be used as a foundation for your personalized treatment plan.

Once the type of dentures to be placed is established, we will tailor your treatment plan. We will then take impressions of your teeth and work with you to create your ideal restoration. Once your dentures are fabricated, we fit and place your dentures to restore beauty and function to your smile.

If dental implants are being used to secure your denture, we may work with a local surgeon for the surgical phase of your implant procedure.

Once the implants are placed into the jaw, they will require three to six months to heal fully. After the implants have healed, we will take another set of impressions and send them to a dental lab to fabricate your final dentures.

During your final appointment, we will secure your new cosmetic dentures to your dental implants for a long-lasting, stable solution for your missing teeth.

What are the Next Steps?

Aftercare and Treatment: After getting dentures, you could experience some soreness, which is normal. Stay in touch with the office in case something needs to be adjusted.

You should follow some basic guidelines.

  • Start with soft foods, chew slowly, and avoid anything sticky or crunchy until you’re more comfortable.
  • Remove dentures daily to clean them thoroughly. Use a soft brush (not toothpaste—it’s too abrasive) and a denture-specific cleanser. Soak them overnight in a denture solution to keep them moist and bacteria-free.
  • Even with dentures, you must still clean your gums, tongue, and remaining teeth. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush or gauze to keep everything fresh and healthy.
  • Your dentist will want to see you for follow-ups to ensure everything fits properly, your gums are healthy, and you’re not silently suffering through denture drama.

FAQ

  • How long do dentures last?

Dentures typically last 5 to 10 years, depending on the type of denture, care, usage, and changes in your mouth’s structure. Over time, they may need adjustments, relining, or replacement to maintain comfort, function, and fit. Regular dental checkups help ensure your dentures support your oral health effectively.

  • What’s the difference between full and partial dentures?

Full dentures replace all your teeth on the upper or lower arch. Partials fill in the gaps when you still have some natural teeth left.

  • Can I eat normally with dentures?

Yes, but it will take time to get used to the dentures and to fully understand what may cause you trouble and what may not.
